THE WITCH IN ME

My mother taught me to draw at an early age, but it was the painting of the gypsy woman over my aunt's piano that inspired me to study art. Since my years at Baylor University, I've developed a loose style to interpret my subjects, and am described as a "true colorist with a fearless approach to painting”. As a featured artist at the Wylie Art Gallery for 10 years, I enjoyed a wonderful art community as well as having had opportunity to display my art in galleries around the Metroplex. Though much of my work is a nod to music, children, and faith, I've found a niche in portraiture with an edge. I was pleased to be commissioned by a prominent courthouse to create four, large works, referencing God and country, and as a member of RCAS, I won their $500 First Place for my piece, entitled "Pensive". As a 30+ year member of Dallas Songwriters Association as well as a member of the BMI performing rights organization, I continue to enjoy my passion for music as I write, record, and perform. This year, I was awarded the coveted Dallas Songwriters Association's 'Vern Dailey Songwriter of the Year Award'. I was also previously awarded first place in the Amnesty International Peace Contest for my song, "What Will You Give?" Having completed a six-song, shape-note catalogue of church hymns, I am now working on two Christian-based musicals as I also continue to expand co-writing opportunities with talented songwriters of different styles and points of view. See some references to past musical successes in photos below.
As a 30 year member and published winner of the Poetry Society of Texas, a founding member of the Wylie Historical Review Committee, both Secretary and Treasurer of Wylie Historical Society, and faithful attendee of La Prada Drive Church of Christ, I stay busy in small town America. *I'll also note that my husband, Choya, and I began renovation of a 100-year-old home in Wylie's Historical District in 2015, and within 2 years, the result was a beautifully preserved home which has since served as a welcoming retreat for many families and has received its Texas Historical marker, designated: the Gallagher House.
